It is an annual event hosted every May by a different Croatian community in Canada. The goal of the Festival is to preserve, share and promote Croatian culture and to enrich Canadian multicultural society. The festival has been organized by the Croatian Cultural Artistic Organization “Sounds of Croatia” from Oakville, ON under the sponsorship of the Canadian/Croatian Federation East of Canada. There were over 20 performances that were performed from the various groups that attended the Festival!
This year the Kardinal Stepinac New York Kolo group performed to the songs and dances of the Croatian region of “Hrvatsko Zagorje”. Their costumes (“nošnje”) were hand-made and embroidered in Croatia, with much love. There are currently 38 performers in the group and they are led by their teachers – Ana Barun and Jessica Erceg. Every Friday, the Kolo Group has their weekly practice at Sts. Cyril & Methodius & St. Raphael’s Church on 41st Street in Manhattan, which has been the center for many Croatians to come together to pray, sing, dance and preserve their rich culture, heritage and language.
The Kardinal Stepinac New York Kolo Group would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers of the 41st Canadian Croatian Festival for the invitation to be their guests. Our deepest wishes for continued blessings, developing new friendships, developing stronger bonds with the relationships we currently have and to continue to mentor the future generations to ensure that we never forget our homeland and our beautiful culture and history for many years to come.
